Archives

The work in Archives very broadly covers a political theme, but by suggestion only. The environment of the years represented here was inescapably a political one.
To quote Dale Lautenbach from a 1987 review: ‘….for the ordinary individual and in the apparent ordinariness of the everyday there are more complex forces at work’.

The Tyre etchings refer to necklacing,a common method of informal township execution in the 1980s and 1990s in which a rubber tyre is filled with petrol, placed around the victim’s neck and set on fire.
